What is compounding?

Compounding is the practice of preparing customised medicines when standard options do not meet specific needs. Our pharmacists use pure pharmaceutical ingredients to create medicines that are not commercially available, allowing treatment to be tailored to the individual.
Compounded medicine may be right for you if you:
Require a custom dose not available in commercially manufactured medicines
Need an alternative formulation due to medicine shortages or supply disruptions
Have allergies or sensitivities to dyes, preservatives, or fillers found in standard medicines
Need gradual dose adjustments or tapered dosing schedules
Would benefit from combining medicines into a single, simplified dose
Have not responded well to standard treatments and require adjusted formulations
Need a different dosage form, such as liquids or gummies, instead of tablets (common for children or older adults)
Require specialised formulations for chronic conditions or wellness support
our process

How it works

Every compounded medicine is prepared through a clear, step-by-step process to ensure safety and quality.

step 1

Prescription or Order Submission

Healthcare providers submit prescriptions for individual patients, or institutions place orders for batch preparations based on their facility needs.

step 2

Clinical Review and Verification

Our licensed pharmacists review ingredients, dosages, safety considerations, and potential interactions before preparation begins. For institutional orders, we also confirm specifications and quality requirements.

step 3

Medication Preparation

We prepare medications in our controlled facility using pharmaceutical-grade ingredients, with strict quality controls at every stage of preparation.

step 4

Quality Assurance

Each formulation undergoes final verification to ensure it meets the prescribed specifications and safety standards.

step 5

Pickup or Delivery

Individual prescriptions are available for patient pickup or delivery. Institutional orders are delivered directly to healthcare facilities with full documentation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to frequently asked questions about compounding pharmacy and how tailored medications support better care outcomes.

What is pharmaceutical compounding?

Compounding is the practice of creating customized medications tailored to specific needs. When standard medications don't quite fit—whether it's the dose, the form, or certain ingredients—our pharmacists prepare personalized formulations from pharmaceutical-grade ingredients. It's pharmacy at its most individualized level.

How is compounding different from what regular pharmacies do?

Most pharmacies dispense pre-made medications in standard doses and forms. We go a step further by preparing customized formulations from scratch. This means we can adjust strengths, create different delivery forms (like turning tablets into liquids), remove allergens, or combine medications that aren't available together commercially.

Is compounded medicine safe?

Absolutely. Every formulation is prepared by licensed pharmacists in a controlled environment using pharmaceutical-grade ingredients. We follow Ghana FDA guidelines and international quality standards, with strict protocols at every step from ingredient verification to final quality checks.

What types of formulations can you prepare?

We compound a wide range of forms: capsules, tablets, topical creams and gels, oral liquids and suspensions, suppositories, and other specialized dosage forms. What we prepare depends on your prescription and specific medical needs.

Where do you serve?

Our compounding facility is located in Ghana, serving healthcare providers and institutions throughout the country. As our manufacturing operations scale, we're building capacity to serve the wider ECOWAS region with both compounded preparations and large-batch essential medicines available for export.

Do patients need a prescription for compounded medications?

It depends on the medication. Some compounded medications require a valid prescription from a licensed healthcare provider, such as a doctor, nurse practitioner, or medical specialist, while others may be available without a prescription depending on their formulation and intended use.

How long does it take to prepare a compounded medication?

For patients and providers, most compounding prescriptions are typically ready within 24–72 hours depending on complexity and required testing. For institutions, batch orders are scheduled based on volume and specifications. We provide specific timelines when orders are submitted and can accommodate urgent clinical needs when possible.

Do you work with healthcare institutions?

Yes. We partner with hospitals, clinics, and healthcare systems across Ghana. Whether you need customized formulations for specific patient populations, batch preparations, or alternatives during medication shortages, we're set up to support institutional care protocols.Healthcare facilities interested in establishing supply relationships, formulary partnerships, or clinical collaborations can contact our institutional services team to discuss specific needs and service agreements.
